• Planning Permission. Many people overlook this crucial first step, meaning that their new decking could in fact be breaking the law. If your proposed decking structure will cover 50% or more of any outside area and/or extend to more than 30cm above the ground, planning permission must be granted by the relevant local authority. If in doubt, check with them first.
• Design Options. Decking at ground-level involves less-complicated design decisions and does not require the addition of extra safety components like balustrades and handrails. Though more complex, elevated decking is perfect for sloping or uneven ground and delivers the extra benefit of increased storage space. Whichever style you choose, be sure your proposed design is as practical as it is aesthetically-pleasing.
