Decorative Paving: The Benefits of Natural Indian Stone

In recent editions of the Greengates Builders Merchants blog, we have been looking at a variety of different jointing compounds that can be used as part of a paving project. Here, we move on to the most exciting part of such a project: the paving slabs themselves! One of the most popular options is slabs made from natural Indian stone, some of the advantages of which we will be looking at in this informative article.

The superlative pavers are made from sandstone and are quarried by experts with many years of experience in the complex and demanding field. After they have been quarried, the slabs are calibrated to the most precise standards by masons of equal expertise, ensuring that each paver is of uniform thickness to ensure that laying them is an easy and enjoyable experience.

So, what advantages do natural stone pavers have? To start with, they are exceptionally strong and robust, giving them a lasting durability that many other materials simply cannot match. Easily able to withstand the daily rigours of heavy foot traffic with a very low likelihood of cracking, the slabs are also strongly resistant to all kinds of weather from strong sunlight to frost, rain and everything in between. This makes them especially ideal for use in the UK's temperamental climate!

The innate strength of natural stone means that it requires very little maintenance once properly installed. Day to day dirt and debris can be simply mopped away with ordinary soap and water while any buildup of grime can be quickly and decisively removed with a power washer. Sealing the stone will both increase its longevity and make it even easier to keep clean. For this purpose, we recommend using Adseal Natural Stone Sealer, which is also available to purchase from Greengates.

One of the key features of Indian stone paving is that, as an entirely natural product, each piece displays subtle differences in terms of its tones, patterns and textures. This gives you complete creative freedom, allowing you to create paths and patios that are nothing less than a tapestry, bringing a high level of aesthetic beauty and visual interest to the finished structure. Each of the three colour options available (Rippon Buff, Raj Green and Kandala Grey) has its own unique appeal.

Natural Indian stone paving slabs are available from Greengates in a variety of sizes and we invite you to browse the collection on our website. If you have any further questions or need expert advice, our technical team will be happy to help so please do not hesitate to get in touch.
